I'm thinking this should be set by default to Send me notifications, as it was kind of buried in the privacy settings and would be useful to all I would have thought

although i dont think we can change it to default we are in the process of popping up a list of FAQ;s and will be sure to include that for all new users. Great suggestion guys

It is set to off by default as if it isnt you will recieve an email anytime someone replies to a thread you have responded too.
This can quickly fill up your inbox if you dont anticipate it.
Thus the default stance is better to be off.
